About Red Wagon Plants

Located in the Champlain Valley in Vermont, we are premium growers of heirloom and specialty plants for kitchen gardens.

We are wholesale, organic plant growers with a retail outlet in Hinesburg, Vermont. As gardeners and cooks our love of food starts with seeds and soil and ends with spoons and plates.  We strongly believe that the kitchen garden has significance in providing not only fresh, wonderful food for the table, but also helps our communities be strong, healthy, and beautiful.

Our Crew!

We distribute our plants throughout Vermont and New Hampshire to grocery stores, garden centers, food coops, and hardware stores. We pride ourselves on excellent customer service and can work with wholesale customers to help them develop an appropriate product line.

Our own retail store is open May 1st through the first week of July. We offer a full line of all of our plants (many of which are only grown for our retail sales) and also carry fruiting plants such as strawberries, raspberries and blueberries, potting soil from VT Compost Company, and seeds from Johnny’s Selected Seeds. Our retail greenhouse has a very unique selection of herbs, vegetables, and flowers for your garden.  We specialize in heirloom, old fashioned varieties  that are grown for flavor and unique beauty. You will notice our attention to variety selection when you bring your produce through the kitchen door and see and taste the colorful bounty.

Our growing methods are simple and wholesome – we start with good potting soil, seeds, and planting stock. We maintain healthy growth with careful watering and attention to detail. Because our plants are started in a compost-based potting soil from Vermont Compost Company, seedlings experience little or no transplant shock as they travel from pot to earth; they are not expecting a daily solution of synthetic fertilizer for their nutrition. Our plants have a robust quality not usually seen in nurseries and garden centers.
